From typewriter to PC: the AI curve no PI firm can afford to ignore

The objections have changed. Two years ago, lawyers said AI would never work. Today, the question is how fast to implement it. The firms getting it right are doing one thing differently.

The objection that disappeared

When I started talking to law firms about AI two years ago, the most common response was dismissal. "We've been doing it this way forever. We don't need this. We're fine as is." It came from older attorneys. It came from younger ones. It came from firms that had been open for decades and firms that had just opened.

Now nearly everyone has gotten on the AI train. They understand that you either adopt or your firm will be left behind, and eventually it won't be in business. The analogy I keep coming back to is the typewriter-to-PC transition. If a law firm insisted on staying with typewriters when personal computers arrived, they would have been out of business. That same transition is happening right now with AI. What has changed is not whether to adopt. It is how to do it right.

The objections that remain

The resistance I hear today is more practical. Staff pushback. Budget concerns. Not enough time to implement right now.

I take each of these seriously. The budget concern is real, but I walk firms through the math: LawPro.ai reduces hours spent on medical records, increases case values through uncovered evidence, and frees paralegals for client communication that drives referrals. The cost of not implementing is harder to see but is often larger than the subscription.

The staff resistance is worth addressing directly. Paralegals who go through onboarding and start using the platform tend to become its strongest advocates. They don't want to go back to reading records manually. And the training burden is removed from the firm entirely: LawPro.ai trains new hires directly.

The time objection is the one I am most direct about. If you do not have time to implement technology that saves time, that is a sign you need it more urgently, not less.

What it looks like when it works

I want to share a story that stays with me. A Maryland attorney recently used LawPro.ai live in the courtroom during a trial. The defense expert started testifying about things he had never heard before. He pulled up LawPro.ai on the spot, queried the records in real time, and built his cross-examination from what the platform returned.

The verdict came in at over $1 million. Significant in Maryland, where pain and suffering caps apply. He told me he attributed a large part of the result to what he was able to do in court, in the moment, with LawPro.ai running alongside him.

"The first time I used LawPro to do a cross-examination of a defense expert, I was nervous. It went so well that the defense lawyer called me right after and demanded we set a mediation date before she got off the phone."

LawPro.ai does not replace courtroom experience. What it does is amplify it. A prepared attorney gets a second set of expert eyes that never gets tired, never misses a referral, and never forgets what was in paragraph 47 of a 3,000-page record.

What real integration looks like

The firms getting the most out of LawPro.ai are the ones who make it part of the process, not a tool they reach for when something seems complicated. Every case goes through the platform. Every demand goes out with LawPro.ai's analysis behind it. Every negotiation draws on its value drivers.

Firms that use it on a one-off basis struggle to build the habit and struggle to see consistent ROI. You still have to have policies and procedures: how it will be used, when it will be used, what you want to pull from it. If you do not have a game plan around that, you probably will not be successful with any technology you implement.

The technology that will never be worse than today

Here is something I say that tends to stop people: the AI you are looking at right now is the worst it will ever be in your lifetime. From here, it only gets better.

Voice AI is getting good enough to handle intake calls with empathy and consistency. Real-time negotiation assistance is already working in active adjuster calls. Automated case monitoring during treatment is live. And 2026 will bring automatic medical record retrieval integrated directly into LawPro.ai's platform.

This is not five years away. For law firms still waiting to see how the technology develops, it is already here.
